With the spring tea season approaching, in order to safeguard consumers’ legitimate rights and interests, regulate the market order, and protect the brand value of geographical indication products such as Huangshan Maofeng, the Huangshan Scenic Area Market Supervision Authority has launched a special inspection campaign targeting the spring tea market.
This campaign focuses on tea wholesalers, local specialty stores, and online vendors, and conducts comprehensive inspections across four key aspects. First, it strictly investigates infringements of geographical indications, with emphasis on cracking down on the unauthorized use or counterfeiting of names such as Huangshan Maofeng, and preventing the sale of counterfeit or substandard products. Second, it standardizes labeling practices by carefully checking information such as place of origin and production dates on tea packaging to ensure traceability and authenticity. Third, it addresses excessive packaging, targeting issues such as unnecessary packaging layers and excessive void ratios. Fourth, it cracks down on false advertising, particularly misleading practices such as fabricating tea age or hyping “sky-high-priced tea”.
A total of 22 business entities were inspected during the campaign, with 6 issues rectified and 1 case formally filed for investigation.
Going forward, the Authority will continue to strengthen supervision, improve consumer complaint and reporting channels, and strictly combat unfair competition in the spring tea market, ensuring that visitors can purchase tea with confidence and enjoy high-quality products.
